Update on Frederick and Prince Rupert Blvd

10 December 2025

PRINCE RUPERT, DECEMBER 6th, 2025 – As the community is aware, the closure of Fredrick Street and Prince Rupert Boulevard as well as Shawatlans Road has lasted longer than originally anticipated. This notice is to update the community on the current status of the area, and next steps.

On Frederick Street, the first phase of construction is complete, with the primary water main now installed. While the City’s engineers finalize the detailed design for the upcoming valve chambers, the roadway along Frederick will be temporarily paved and reopened. Some removal of pavement will need to occur in future, however paving in the interim reduces the amount of maintenance of gravel roadways and enables us to reopen public access in the meantime.

Access will not be available from Shawatlans Road via the Industrial Park, which remains closed. Work on this section is currently paused while the next phase of the project is fully designed. Once designs are complete an update will be provided.
